Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has extended the emergency tariff period for ZESCO Limited due to ongoing electricity generation challenges caused by low water levels in major reservoirs. Despite recent rainfall, water levels remain inadequate, impacting hydropower production.

As a result, the ERB has extended the emergency period for three more months (from August 1 to October 31, 2025).

In a statement, the ERB said it has maintained the emergency tariffs approved in October 2024.

This decision follows ZESCO’s application and review in line with the Electricity Act No. 11 of 2019, which requires periodic assessments every three months. The ERB’s resolution aims to address the ongoing electricity supply challenges in Zambia.
