Zambia’s state-owned power utility, ZESCO Limited, has attributed a prolonged power outage in parts of Lusaka to planned maintenance involving the replacement of ageing electricity poles.
The outage affected customers in Kabulonga Extension, parts of Ibex Hill, Kalikiliki, Mtendere, Kalingalinga, Mass Media, areas off Kamloops Road and part of Salama Park on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
In a statement issued on Friday, ZESCO apologised for the disruption, acknowledging its impact on businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises such as barbershops, salons and restaurants.
The utility said the maintenance work was aimed at preventing frequent equipment failures and ensuring a safe, reliable and stable electricity supply ahead of the rainy season.
“Zesco sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and thanks its valued customers for their patience and understanding,” the statement said.
