Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has assured residents of Lagos, Abuja, Kwara and other areas experiencing outages of improved electricity supply within the next 48 to 72 hours.
In an update on the power situation, Tegbe said his team was working to restore affected generating units to service in phases, with the first set expected back online within that period.
He acknowledged the difficulties the outages have caused households and businesses in the affected areas, including Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Tegbe, planned maintenance at Egbin Power Station and gas supply constraints at some thermal power stations have reduced the amount of electricity available on the national grid.
Grid operators have consequently introduced load shedding in some areas to manage the shortfall, he said.
Tegbe said sabotage of key transmission lines had also limited the use of alternative routes to supply electricity to some locations, particularly Lagos.
He added that the ministry was working with operators to improve gas supply and accelerate repairs to damaged infrastructure.
Residents of the affected areas have taken to social media to express their frustration, with some accusing the minister of failing to fulfil his responsibilities.
