In a message posted on X on Sunday, Pezeshkian expressed condolences to the victims’ families and people in Kurdistan province, called for urgent medical treatment for those injured and ordered support for affected families and a thorough investigation into the incident.
First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref also spoke by phone with Kurdistan Governor Arash Zerehtan and called for an expert investigation and a report to the government on the findings, the treatment of the injured and support for the victims’ families.
Aref also ordered authorities to urgently address all aspects of the incident and follow up on insurance coverage for those killed or injured, including people who went to the scene to help.
The accident occurred on Saturday near the Sanandaj-Hamedan police station, when a fuel tanker caught fire, setting several vehicles ablaze.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
