Ghana National Gas Company Ltd (Ghana Gas) is nearing completion of the process to select contractors for its planned 278-kilometre, 20-inch-diameter bi-directional gas pipeline linking Takoradi and Tema, company officials told Energy News Africa.
The company expects to sign the contract before the end of 2026, Ernest Kirk Mensah, Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana Gas, told Energy News Africa over the weekend during a media training.
Details of the contract will be made public after it is signed, Mensah said.
Ghana Gas will fully fund the project, with construction expected to begin in April 2027.
The pipeline will allow gas to flow in both directions between Ghana’s western and eastern corridors, giving the country greater flexibility in meeting domestic demand.
“It is one of the major infrastructure projects we are looking forward to constructing to guarantee security of gas supply,” Dr. Robert Kofi Lartey, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, told Energy News Africa on the sidelines of Africa Oil Week 2026 in Accra.
Lartey described the project as a major investment opportunity.
Mensah said the project would strengthen Ghana’s energy security and enable Ghana Gas to supply gas to major industries in the Tema industrial enclave.
