The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has paid GH¢1.3 billion of the GH¢1.4 billion it owed the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), as identified in the Auditor-General’s report for 2025.

GRA auditors confirmed the payment on Thursday when officials from the Ministry of Energy and energy sector agencies appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.

ECG’s debt formed part of GH¢3.6 billion in tax irregularities involving 10 state-owned energy sector agencies identified in the report.

The committee’s chairperson, Abena Osei-Asare, commended the ministry for facilitating the payment and urged the remaining agencies to follow ECG’s example.

“Every audit must lead to some action,” she said.
