The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has announced that it will shut down its gas receiving facilities in Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana between Sunday,  January 18 and January 31, 2026 for routine maintenance works.

The scheduled Emergency Shutdown (ESD) and High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) tests are expected to last for a maximum of nine hours.

During the exercise, WAPCo’s facilities will not transport gas to customers in the four countries.

“These tests are mandated under the West African Gas Pipeline Authority (WAGPA) regulations and are planned collaboratively with key stakeholders in the four countries,” the company said in a post on its official social media platforms.

The company noted that the tests are aligned with industry best practices to safeguard the integrity, safety, and reliability of WAPCo’s gas transportation infrastructure.

WAPCo transports gas on behalf of power generation companies through its pipeline infrastructure, which traverses four West African countries: Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana.
