The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has announced that it will shut down its gas receiving facilities in Ghana on Sunday, 18 January 2026, for routine maintenance work.
The scheduled Emergency Shutdown (ESD) and High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) tests are expected to last for a maximum of nine hours.
As a result, both the Tema and Takoradi Regulating and Metering Stations will not receive gas for transportation to customers in the Eastern and Western power enclaves.
“These tests are mandated under the West African Gas Pipeline Authority (WAGPA) regulations and are planned collaboratively with key stakeholders in the four countries,” the company said in a statement.
The statement noted that the tests are aligned with industry best practices to safeguard the integrity, safety, and reliability of WAPCo’s gas transportation infrastructure.
WAPCo transports gas on behalf of power generation companies through its pipeline infrastructure, which traverses four West African countries: Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana.
The company is also expected to shut down its facilities in the other countries on 31 January 2026 for the same maintenance exercise.
